Current Students Quality Assurance & Enhancement

Independent College Academic Council, Senior Management and the Board of Directors, oversee all academic activities of the College, including quality assurance and enhancement. The Academic Council serves to safeguard, sustain and enhance the academic standards and reputation of the College and its programmes. Membership of Academic Council includes academic, administrative and support staff of the College, including faculty representatives and learner representatives. The Academic Council is chaired by Dr. Marion Palmer, an external consultant with considerable expertise in higher education.

Academic Council meets a minimum of four times per year.

The Deputy President, Dr. Paula Kenny, has executive responsibility for quality assurance. The Office of the Deputy President supervises the implementation of quality assurance and safeguards academic standards in Independent College, under the direction of Academic Council.

The Quality Assurance Manual is made up of the policies and procedures for quality assurance. Quality Assurance Policies of Independent College are framed in the context of the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG), and the policies of Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), as the awarding body for Independent College programmes leading to framework awards. They are informed by the strategic plan of the College, which identifies the quality enhancement objectives the College is working towards.

Quality assurance policies and procedures are reviewed and updated on a regular basis and made available publicly.
